  • Happy Thanksgiving EVERYONE!!!!

    Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 24th, (the fourth Thursday in November) - the day before Black Friday.

    Thanksgiving Day traditionally kicks off the 'holiday season' in the United States. The day was set in stone by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 and approved by Congress in 1941. FDR changed it from Abraham Lincoln's designation as the last Thursday in November (because there are sometimes five Thursdays in the month).

    While Britons think of it as a warm-up for the Yuletide period, many Americans think of it as just as important as Christmas.

    What is the history of Thanksgiving?

    Thanksgiving Day can be traced back to the 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the religious refugees from England known popularly as the Pilgrims invited the local Native Americans to a harvest feast after a particularly successful growing season.

    The previous year's harvests had failed and in the winter of 1620 half of the pilgrims had starved to death.

    Luckily for the rest, members of the local Wampanoag tribe taught the Pilgrims how to grow corn, beans and squash (the Three Sisters); catch fish, and collect seafood.

    There are only two contemporary accounts of the 1621 Thanksgiving, but it's clear that Turkey was not on the menu. The three-day feast included goose, lobster, cod and deer.

    Why do Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day?

    Pilgrim Edward Winslow wrote a letter about that now-famous meal in 1621 which mentioned a turkey hunt before the dinner.

    Another theory says the choice of turkey was inspired by Queen Elizabeth I who was eating dinner when she heard that Spanish ships had sunk on their way to attack England.

    Queenie was so thrilled with the news she ordered another goose be served. Some claim early US settlers roasted turkeys as they were inspired by her actions.

    Others say that as wild turkeys are native to North America, they were a natural choice for early settlers.

    Classic Thanksgiving dishes

    Turkey: and/or ham, goose and duck or turduken (a spatchcocked combo of three whole birds!)

    Stuffing (also known as dressing): a mix of bread cubes, chopped celery, carrots, onions and sage stuffed inside the turkey for roasting. Chestnuts, chopped bacon or sausage, and raisins or apples are also sometimes included in the stuffing.

    Pies: pumpkin pies are most common, but pecan, apple, sweet potato and mincemeat pies are also quite popular.

    Who set the date of Thanksgiving Day?

    'The National Thanksgiving Proclamation' was the first formal proclamation of Thanksgiving in America. The first President of the United States George Washington made this proclamation on October 3, 1789.

    Then in 1846, author Sarah Josepha Hale waged a one-woman campaign for Thanksgiving to be recognised as a truly national holiday.

    In the US the day had previously been celebrated only in New England and was largely unknown in the American South. All the other states scheduled their own Thanksgiving holidays at different times, some as early as October and others as late as January.

    Hale's advocacy for the national holiday lasted 17 years and four presidencies before the letter she wrote to Lincoln was successful. In 1863 at the height of the Civil War he supported legislation which established a national holiday of Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November.

    Lincoln perhaps wanted the date to tie in with the anchoring of the Mayflower at Cape Cod, which occurred on November 21, 1620. Although we now use the Gregorian calendar. In 1621 the date would have been November 11 to the Pilgrims who used the Julian calendar.

    So Hale finally got her wish. She is perhaps now better known, though, for writing the nursery rhyme 'Mary Had a Little Lamb'.

    'Franksgiving'

    In 1939, President Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving up a week to try and give a boost to retailers before Christmas during the Great Depression.

    Several states followed FDR’s lead but 16 states refused move the holiday shift, leaving the country with rival Thanksgivings. FDR changed his mind after coming under pressure from Congress and in 1941, the a resolution was passeed returning the holiday to the fourth Thursday of November.

    Atlantic City mayor Thomas D. Taggart later described the Thanksgiving holiday from 1939–1941 as "Franksgiving".

    The Presidential reprieve

    Eating turkey is actually more associated with Thanksgiving than it is Christmas in the States with over 50 million turkeys served up every year in the US.

    Every year, though, the POTUS ‘pardons’ at least one turkey. This year, President Obama will pardon one of two turkeys at the White House today. Either Tater or Tot will get the stay of execution and live out its days at Virginia Tech. The other will, in all likeliness, become the official national Thanksgiving turkey.

    It will be up to President Trump to do the honors — or not, should he choose otherwise — next year.

    The public presentation of two prize turkeys to the commander-in-chief in the lead-up to Thanksgiving had been a time-honoured photo op since the 1940s.

    But on Nov 17, 1989 - 200 years after George Washington's proclamation - President George H.W. Bush formalised the tradition when he pardoned a 50-pound turkey in the White House Rose Garden.

    “Let me assure you," Bush said to the 30 schoolchildren present. "This fine turkey will not end up on anyone’s dinner table, not this guy. He’s granted a presidential pardon as of right now.”

    Two years earlier Ronald Reagan told the assembled press he would have "pardoned" Charlie, the White House turkey at the ceremony that year when he was asked if he would have pardoned the key players in the Iran-Contra scandal.

    The presidential turkey pardon has remained an annual Thanksgiving ritual ever since.

    A turkey pardon? The President of the United States is presented with a turkey by the National Turkey Federation. The bird is then “pardoned” and allowed to live out the rest of its natural life.

    When is it happening this year? 23 November 2016.

    How did this tradition start? Dating back to at least 1947, US presidents were gifted with turkeys at Thanksgiving. However, these turkeys were generally eaten.

    Ronald Reagan was the first president to “pardon” a Thanksgiving turkey, in 1987. His successor, George HW Bush, made the pardoning ceremony into a White House tradition from 1989 onwards.

    How is the turkey chosen? 80 turkeys are randomly chosen at birth, with the field finally being narrowed to the two largest and best-behaved birds. Both birds are then spared by the President.

    What happens to the turkeys afterwards? Since 2013, both fortunate birds are sent to live at Morven Park, Virginia USA.

    One can celebrate Thanksgiving twice...

    Canadians mark Turkey Day, too, in fact it was the first country to do so. Canada celebrates a separate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October.

    It was first celebrated by the arctic explorer Martin Frobisher in 1578 - more than 40 years before the Pilgrim fathers arrived in the New World.

    Football!

    Like soccer on Boxing Day in the UK, football (the American version) plays a major role in Thanksgiving.

    The University of Detroit Stadium hosted the first Thanksgiving Day football game in 1934, pitting the Detroit Lions against the Chicago Bears.

    The game was the brainchild of G.A. Richards, the first owner of the Detroit Lions. He was keen to promote the new franchise in a baseball-mad city, so he approached NBC to get them to broadcast the game across their national radio network. They agreed and the game became the first ever network broadcast event.

    The game was such a hit it became a tradition in the US and football is now an integral part of the day.

    Detroit has had played a game every year since, breaking only for World War 2. The Dallas Cowboys, too, have played every year on Thanksgiving since 1966, only missing two years in 1975 and 1977.

    Annual Macy's parade

    Another Thanksgiving tradition is the Macy's parade in New York City - an annual pageant of floats, cheerleaders, marching bands and gigantic balloons.

    The parade dates back to the 1920s when many of the immigrant workers at Macy's department store were keen to celebrate the American holiday with the sort of festival their parents had thrown in Europe.

    It originally started from 145th Street in Harlem and ended at Herald Square, making a 6-mile (9.7 km) route.

    The newest route was introduced with the 2012 parade. This change eliminated Times Square and rerouted the parade down Sixth Avenue, a move that was protested by the Times Square BID, Broadway theatre owners and other groups.

    New York City officials preview the parade route and try to move as many potential obstacles out of the way, including traffic signals.

    Let's talk turkey

    When European settlers encountered turkeys for the first time in the early 1500s, they incorrectly identified the birds as a type of guineafowl.

    Since this group of birds were thought to come from Turkey, the North American bird was dubbed 'turkey fowl'.

    This later became shortened to 'turkey' and entered the vernacular. The English navigator William Strickland, who introduced the turkey into England in 1550, was granted a coat of arms which included a "turkey-cock in his pride proper".

    The official record of his crest in the archives of the College of Arms is said to be the oldest surviving European drawing of a turkey.

    (In Portuguese the translation of turkey is 'peru'. The exotic birds taken back to 16th century Portugal had come from there.)

    The 12-day Thanksgiving period between from Nov 20 to Dec 1 will likely see over 25 million travelling to destinations worldwide according to trade organisation Airlines for America (A4A).

    The projected number of 25.3 million is three per cent higher than the estimated 24.5 million passengers who made the journey in 2014.

    That equates to approximately 65,000 people per day on top of average passengers for a total of 2.7 million people per day.

    Consciously utilizing The Power Of Gratitude is not only an important life skill to learn and master, it's an extremely important aspect of consciously and consistently attracting to yourself the Abundance and Happiness that we all desire, aspire toward and without exception deserve to experience in life.

    With that in mind, take a moment to think about and ponder on the following...

    What Are YOU Truly and Deeply Grateful For?

    The reason asked, is due to the simple and unwavering fact that deeply felt, emotionally charged and consistently expressed sentiments of gratitude serve as the catalyst for profound, seemingly magical and what's often referred to as miraculous transformation in life.

    The fact of the matter is, The Power of Gratitude can and often does, transform results in the "blink of an eye."

    Can only guess you desire to be, do and/or have more of something that you're not currently experiencing in your life, right? And you want it as quickly, simply and easily as is humanly possible too, correct?

    There's your answer. Initiating the Power of Gratitude is as simple or complex as YOU choose to "allow it" to be.

    There's really no need to know or understand all the intricacies of HOW or WHY the Power of Gratitude works as it does.

    That’s all been “figured out” already. The plan, the systems and the processes that ensure The Power of Gratitude NEVER misses is already in place. Now it's only a matter of you "consciously and intentionally aligning and harmonizing with what IS in place, so you might EXPERIENCE The Power of Gratitude for yourself in a very up close and personal kind of way.

    To KNOW just how "true" that is in a personally experiential kind of way, requires nothing more or less than making a "conscious choice" to take the "time" to learn about how and why the Power of Gratitude is so powerful, master it and DO IT each and every day.

    The tangible and measurable evidence that the Power of Gratitude brings into the physical, financial, relational, mental, emotional and/or spiritual aspects of your life will reveal themselves.

    Once you've grasped, adopted and adapted to the Higher Truth regarding the power of your perceptions, whether it be perceptions of gratitude or it's polar opposite, "ungratefulness".

    What is gratitude? It's a state of mind based on and ignited by beliefs, correct? What is ungratefulness? It too is nothing more or less than a state of mind based on and ignited by belief.

    Whether it be The Power of Gratitude or The Power of Ungratefulness, both exist initially as a "state of mind." Both are "intangible" in nature and both reside in the same space. In the same way, they both provide tangible and measurable results in EVERY aspect of our lives.

    If I choose to focus on and give attention to what I am grateful for rather than what's wrong in my life, or what I don't have, what state of mind am I choosing?

    ALL THINGS in the tangible world of shape and form began as a thought, an idea, a conceptualization. It doesn't matter if it's a feeling, an emotion or a tangible object such as the computer you're looking at right now.

    Anything and EVERYTHING in the world BEGAN, finds its root in and can be traced back to, a specific quality of consciousness!!.

    A quality of consciousness consistently focused on being broke or "poor" can, will and does reveal itself as a tangible and measurable outcome that mirrors that chosen quality of consciousness PRECISELY.

    The opposite also holds true. Point being; EVERYTHING begins in the mind and everything on the "outside" is a mirrired reflection of YOUR state of mind.

    Whether it's consciously utilizing the Power of Gratitude for what you currently have, hold a sincere desire to have at some future point in time, or unconsciously utilizing the Power of Ungratefulness based on the appearance of how things are, the very same concept holds true, the very same power is unleashed and the very same creative process attracts and provides whatever you might be choosing, to you...unconditionally.

    The kind and quality of these 2 varying "states of mind" are without question different in quality, yet both are a construct of mind, initiate the creative process and provide, without fail, tangible and measurable results.

    That's really and truly all you need to know and "consciously DO" to consciously enact the Power of Gratitude in EVERY aspect of your life.

    The Power of Gratitude Has A Spiritually Based as Well as a Sound Scientific Explanation

    First, let's explore how sincere gratefulness works from a strictly scientific perspective and how, through our individual choice to develop a consistent habit of focusing on and expressing "heartfelt gratitude" for what we have or what we may desire to have in the future, enacts the immutable, unwavering and All Encompassing power of Universal Law in a pleasing and desirable kind of way and without fail draws (or attracts) more for you to be grateful for.

    As I've covered in depth, the Law of Vibration , everything within our universe broken down into it's purest and most basic form is a vibrating mass of atoms and subatomic particles. (Energy or light) Through the Law of Attraction , the energy (vibrations) that you resonate and project based on your thoughts, feelings, and emotions determines your individually projected "vibrational frequency" which broadcasts and projects that frequency into what modern day scientists refer to as "the field", or as the more spiritually minded might refer to as the Kingdom. attracts to it energy or vibrational frequencies that harmonize or resonate with it which transmutes from waves of energy into particles of matter, determining with laser like precision, the events, situations, and circumstances that you attract and eventually see and experience as they manifest into tangible and measurable form in your life.

    What does that have to do with the Power Of Gratitude?

    Absolutely Everything!

    When you are in a sincere state of gratitude your energy (vibrational resonance) is one of acceptance and harmony. You resonate, and as a result project a much higher vibrational frequency which is exactly what attracts to you the events, conditions, and circumstances that you desire.

    To provide more clarity on the resonance created and projected by focusing on and consistently choosing an attitude of gratitude, consider the following analogy...

    Think of yourself as a giant magnet. Whatever you are feeling, whether it be love, fear, anger, happiness, anger, joy, gratitude, resistance etc. you are in essence creating and projecting a magnetic force that attracts and draws to you events, conditions and circumstances which are in direct correlation to what you are feeling. Fear of something creates a magnetic force that can attract more of what you fear. Expressing Gratitude for any situation projects a magnetic force that draws to you more of what you are expressing gratitude for.

    In other words enabling and allowing yourself to transition into and remain in a state of gratitude puts you in harmonious alignment and at the same time, emits and projects a vibrational resonance which attracts additional energies the same in kind and quality as the deeply felt emotion of gratitude projected.

    At any time that you are NOT expressing gratitude for an outcome and judging it as you are in essence resisting the outcome which places your focus and attention on NOT WANTING that outcome. When this happens what are your thoughts and emotions fixated on? What you DON"T want, correct? That focus of NOT wanting also creates, emits and projects a "magnetic force" of a different kind and quality, which only serves to draw to you more of that which you are NOT WANTING or resisting.

    Let's look at the difference between expressing gratitude and choosing a state of resistance in your day to day life...

    When you experience an outcome that you find displeasing and you choose to fight or resist whatever it might be that's happening in your life at any given moment you are actually creating resistance, which puts you in a disharmonious vibration with the thing desired, or a lower vibrational frequency, and we all know what begins to happen then, don't we? You resonate with and begin to attract the dis-harmonious events, conditions and circumstances into your life that you are resisting. As mentioned above, you are drawing to you or attracting through your chosen "magnetic force" the polar opposite of what you have a sincere and conscious desire to experience.

    Resistance is placing focus and attention on what you would rather NOT have happening which is in essence creating and projecting a magnetic force (an asking of sorts) which is drawing to you what it is that you are placing your predominant focus on (resisting) and have NO conscious desire to experience.

    This quality of focus, and placing unnecessary ATTENTION on it, states your INTENTION to whatever the Source of your understanding might be and can only serve to draw more of that which you are focusing on and giving attention to.

    Gratitude on the other hand is an acceptance of things just the way they are which correlates with acceptance; a surrendering of sorts which in turn resonates and projects a much different resonance of energy creating yet another magnetic force that aligns, harmonizes with and is conducive to attracting the "consciously desired" outcome.

    A common question that comes up is......

    "How in the world can I be in a state of gratitude when everything seems to be going wrong? Let's dig down a bit deeper, analyze this a little further and you'll have a crystal clear understanding of what is actually happening.

    First of all it's important to recognize the importance of accepting responsibility for whatever is going on in your life. As we've covered in The Power Of Thoughts , the events, conditions and circumstances that you're currently experiencing are manifestations based on thoughts and emotions that you've chosen at some point in the past. It's due to those thoughts and emotions which represent the seeds, that you are experiencing whatever outcome you currently are.

    Remember, you are the one that thinks your thoughts. Your thoughts do not think you. In the same way, the emotions ignited and experienced as a result of the kind and quality of the thoughts that YOU choose, serve as a gauge and are a reflection of the quality of thoughts that you are thinking.

    Since your current outcomes are based on what you have thought and felt at some point in the past and those outcomes are now being experienced in your life, guess who created them?

    YOU did!! Although that may not make you feel any better about them just yet based on what you're SEEING and experiencing now, consider this...

    Since it is you that is responsible for attracting and creating "undesirable outcomes, then isn't it also just as possible to change the kind and quality of your chosen thoughts and at the same time the emotions which follow which are responsible for attracting and creating the "less than desired" which will shift the kind and quality of the attraction and produce the desired result?

    Absolutely!!

    Which is WHY it's SO vitally important to use your inherent abilities to consciously and consistently utilize the Power of Gratitude in EACH and EVERY area of your life.

    Simply recognizing the fact that you are responsible for attracting and bringing whatever event, condition, circumstance, person, etc into your life in and of itself provides you with a dramatically enhanced awareness and understanding of your creative power which in and of itself can and hopefully WILL instill a sense of gratitude that you've been provided the choice as well as the ability to discern, decide and determine what you will create for your life from this day forward.

    Although prior to understanding how this process works you were in essence "unconsciously attracting and creating", now you can begin to "consciously attract and create" (or if you prefer co-create) more to express sincere and heartfelt gratitude for.

    Once you fully grasp and understand that your current experiences here and now are merely guideposts showing you that you are either on the desired path of creating your consciously desired outcomes or that you need to make some minor adjustments in your thought processes that created them, you will become better enabled and more empowered to express heartfelt gratitude for whatever is currently happening in your life recognizing the fact that YOU created it.

    Sure...you could get mad at yourself, choose to be upset and perhaps even become fearful. But what energy are you resonating, emitting and projecting by making that less than empowering choice?

    NOT the kind or quality that will attract your consciously desired outcomes for sure.

    Your perception of something going wrong is only your perception, that is all. A misguided or misdirected perception unconsciously projected based on false beliefs and a lack of understanding that EVERYTHING unfolds in your life perfectly just as you choose and instruct never has, never can and NEVER WILL change the Higher Truth that "As you believe you receive."

    In the bigger scheme of things, Nothing EVER goes "wrong." EVERY effect is derived from a cause and that EFFECT is always in alignment and resonance with the CAUSE. Belieivng and perceiving anything less, is only based on a lack of deeper understanding concerning the process of creation and the unerring cycles that sustain it.

    It may very well be that you "believe and perceive" something as being random, chaotic and/or going wrong. The process of creation NEVER errs, wavers, discerns or judges. It is, has been and always will be perfect, precise and unfailing 100% of the time.

    It is only unconsciously and misdirected thought and unconsciously and misdirected perceptions often judged and labeled as being WRONG thoughts or WRONG perceptions that are responsible for igniting less than desirable emotions that attract creations that show up in your life in the form of events, conditions and circumstances that so many (and perhaps even you) believe and perceive as being or "going wrong."

    It's important to recognize and express sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the fact that EVERYTHING in your life is unfolding, producing and providing a miracle; a magnificent creation that YOU yourself created and have the power to change ANYTIME you choose to do so.

    The process of creation, regardless of what you might currently "believe to be true" and how you might perceive it is ALWAYS 100% of the time 24/7/365 producing an infinite number of miracles all around us.

    Learn to recognize that fact, consciously initiate The Power of Gratitude by expressing sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the irrevocable and profoundly amazing gift you've been provided to determine the kind and quality of EVERY miracle in your life and you will begin to see the transformational and life enhancing role that the Power of Gratitude plays in creating MUCH more to be grateful for.

    Those miracles (creations) which show up that aren't in alignment and harmony with your consciously desired outcomes are merely signs that require nothing more and nothing less than very simple and very subtle adjustments within yourself.

    When you fully grasp and internalize this Higher Truth and understand the importance of learning to express heartfelt gratitude for WHATEVER signs that you may have mis-created or "unconsciously created" in the past and make the commitment to yourself to begin looking for, seeing and expressing the good consistently, you'll clearly SEE both how and why The Power of Gratitude NEVER errs, wavers or misses it's mark.

    You'll KNOW in an experiential kind of way, that you have been freely provided with all you could possibly need to change and redirect the thoughts, emotions and perceptions which brought whatever it might be into your life.

    Your perceptions regarding any event, condition or circumstance are only based on a memory of something in the past that is stored in your subconscious mind and can be consciously changed if you discover that it is not in harmony with what you have a desire to accomplish.

    For example, let's look at two people with totally different perceptions regarding the same situation, and see first hand what an attitude of gratitude is, and isn't.

    This analogy will validate the old saying that "There's a silver lining in EVERY cloud." That's MUCH more true than most understand.

    Let's say that you wake up on a Saturday morning after a good nights rest. You've worked hard all week and you're really looking forward to getting outside and playing in a golf tournament that you had entered, and enjoying your weekend of R&R. You're feeling pretty good about the day ahead of you. You make your coffee and head for the window to open the blinds. You get them opened up and look out the window. ARGGHHHHHH, it's raining outside!

    Next, your self talk kicks in and it goes something like this. "Oh man, my whole day is ruined. I was planning on doing this and that and now I can't. Why do things always have to happen like that? Another weekend shot! I can't ever get a break!"

    Obviously your perception is that everything went wrong and your whole weekend is ruined. Based on your thought pattern and perception, your right, it is. Unless you are able to change that perception, you'll allow yourself to have a less than desirable weekend. In fact, by remaining in this state, you will literally attract additional events, conditions, and circumstances to you that will make Certain that you have a less than desirable weekend!

    This is a classic case of resistance, or ungratefulness. No silver lining here right?

    Now let's take a look at the neighbor down the street who always seems to have things going his way. Let's imagine it's the same scenario. He has worked all week and made plans to play in the same golf tournament that you were entered in.

    He walks to the window, opens the shades and sees exactly the same situation that you did when you opened them except, although he initially has a little disappointment because he can't go to the golf tournament he was planning on, he decides that there is nothing he can do to change the situation and begins his habitual thought process and self talk which goes something like this...

    "Boy I sure was looking forward to that golf tournament. Oh well, I've got a few things that need to get done around here today anyway. That means I don't have to water the grass for a few days and that will sure save a little on my water bill. It's been a few weeks since it rained and we sure needed it."

    Although the person in the second example was a little disappointed initially, a conscious decision was made that wouldn't allow it to ruin the entire weekend and shifted the focus to something more positive and productive.

    This is a classic case of remaining in gratitude, regardless. No resistance, no allowing undesired emotions to ignite and the end result is a harmonious vibration.

    Do you see what I mean about perception? Same situation, different people, different perception, different outcome.

    Although that's a "physical" example, it conveys from that perspective how varying perceptions can create completely opposite experiences.

    When you have developed a crystal clear understanding that all things work for the greater good no matter how seemingly bad things may appear, it becomes much easier to stay in a state of gratitude.

    When you are able to fully develop that awareness, (and with a little practice, you will) not only is it an extremely freeing experience, but you are setting your self up for a much greater flow of Abundance and Happiness being attracted and coming into your life...EVERY area of your life! When the Universe sees that you are grateful for what you have, it will send you more.

    This is exactly how Universal Laws operate. The universe doesn't perceive anything as good or bad, it only sends outcomes to you based on your vibrational resonance, and your attitude concerning any given thing is exactly what determines that vibrational resonance.

    God, Universal Consciousness, Super-Conscious Mind or whatever you perceive Source to be, loves each person unconditionally exactly the same and only delivers to each precisely what we are asking for, based on our individually chosen vibrational output. If that output resonates anger, fear, doubt, worry etc. the vibrational resonance that you're projecting communicates and the universe perceives that you are asking for outcomes based on that output, and that is exactly what you'll receive!

    As spiritual text states it..."As you sow, so shall you reap."

    On the other hand, by learning to consciously direct your thoughts, control the emotions that determine that output, and developing the ability to remain in a state of Gratitude regardless of what the situation may temporarily consist of, your vibrational output or magnetically attractive force is conducive to attracting outcomes that are in vibrational resonance with Gratitude and you can only attract to you the events, conditions and circumstances that are in alignment with Gratitude. Positive and Desired Outcomes!

    We can't possibly control everything that is going on around us in the world but we can most certainly control ourselves and how we perceive what's going on in the world around us.

    The unwavering systems (Universal Laws) have been put into place, and you only need to learn to operate consciously, intentionally, purposefully in alignment and harmony with what you desire, which will allow you to attract the Abundance and Happiness that you and everyone else DOES desire.

    Developing an attitude of gratitude is one of the most important and ESSENTIAL things that you can do for attracting and manifesting the things that you desire into your life. In fact, if you have a desire to consistently attract desired outcomes, it's not only important and essential, it's NECESSARY that you do!

    Action Steps To Develop Your Attitude Of Gratitude

    Ok, now that you have a feel for the importance of expressing gratitude in your day to day outcomes, regardless of what they are, let's explore a few ways to develop an attitude of gratitude that will positively effect what you see manifest in your life everyday.

    By focusing on and compiling a list of the things that you are grateful for in your life actually accomplishes a few extremely effective things at the same time.

    #1 It allows you to bring into your conscious awareness the good things that are happening in your life on a day to day basis, and with repetition, will take your focus off of what you perceive as the negative aspects of any situation.

    It's purpose is to put you more into a mindset of finding that you really do have good, positive things happening to you in all areas of your life, and shifts the focus off of what you perceive to be negative.

    In essence it is a conscious choice to focus on gratitude rather than choosing what the mass majority does which is "unconsciously" allowing their thoughts, emotions and focus to run wild all the while believing that their a victim of circumstance rather than a creator of circumstance.

    It's no secret that life can deal what "appears" and is often "perceived" to be a bad hand sometimes, but if you will look hard for it, you can find the good in any situation. Sometimes the answer isn't readily available, but just the knowing that all things happen for the greater good, is enough to keep you from falling into resistance, and keep it from getting worse.

    #2 By shifting the focus off of only the negative aspect of a situation, you are able to see more clearly the positive things that can come out of this situation, which in turn puts you into more of a vibrational state that will attract the things that you desire.

    #3 While you are doing this procedure, it is automatically rewriting the negative script that through repetition, you have allowed to be written in your subconscious and replacing it with positive and productive scripting that will deliver to you, more positive and productive outcomes.

    Technique #1 : The Mental Gratitude List

    By developing the discipline to practice this technique every day, you will find that it becomes easier and easier to do, and the results, meaning the attraction of more to express gratitude for, will be dramatic.

    There are actually several ways that you can do gratitude exercises. Personally I find what works best for me is to mentally go over my list of things to be grateful for as I meditate . The reason this is such an effective method is because during meditation, your brain wave activity is lowered dramatically into an alpha state, which allows the affirmations to penetrate deeper into the subconscious portion of your mind, and has a quicker, deeper, and longer lasting effect with less effort.

    If your not into the meditation thing, you can also go over a mental list as you do the things that relax you, such as working in the garden, walking in the park, going fishing, or whatever relaxation activities that you do.

    It's not nearly as important precisely how you do your gratitude exercises as it is that you make certain to do them.

    You'll find that doing your gratitude work consistently delivers results more quickly, and is much more effective if you can do it while you are in a more relaxed state of mind.

    If you are at a place where you are totally unable to quiet your mind and anxious most of the time, you may find the next method to be more effective, initially.

    Technique #2 : The Written Out Gratitude List

    This method is equally as effective and actually accomplishes the same end result as the first technique.

    Just take out a piece of paper and make a hand written list of the things that you can think of that you are grateful for. Think deeply about each area of your life and begin to write in detail the good things that come to your mind as you write.

    Don't fight it or strain attempting to come up with things, just "allow" them to flow.

    Depending on your particular situation, you may find that it's hard to come up with things to be grateful for initially, so dig deep and things will begin to flow. Make sure though that you are finding and writing things that you are sincerely grateful for. If the emotion isn't there, the result won't be either.

    Utilize this technique in whatever area of your life you are working on, regardless if it's money, health, relationships, or all three. It is extremely powerful and with practice and persistence you will begin to see circumstances begin to change almost magically.

    Make a commitment to yourself that you will do this at least once per day and stick to that commitment. It doesn't have to take a long time. Even 5 minutes is better than not at all. Put into it the time that you can spare, but make sure you do it every day.

    You'll be pleased with the results.

    Gratitude, I Martha Wooden, also have to be reminded of this just as anyone else when the opposite feeling tries to creep in somehow. My two kids and I are very blessed and I know for certain that we are and have always been inspite of some of the challenges that may come and go. Challenges can help us learn as well as grow into a wiser and more mature person having the opportunity to gain a much better understanding about life in general and all that may end up entering and exiting our lives, rather good or bad.

    I chose a profession that is very demanding and at times requires an huge amount of my time, a higher tolerance level and much patience.

    My tolerance and my patience level can get a little low, I have to pray and take time out to relax in order to recharge. I always try to keep a very positive attitude, no matter what. I execute my job very well. The company I am currently employed by has several office locations in AZ. The office I work out of is our Phoenix Office which is the companys largest office with the most clientele and employees. I work with 3 other women in this Office and we are responsible for successfully running the entire operation of this company for the surrounding geographic areas in which we target. The owner of the company sets high standards for each office. We each are assigned our individual tasks as well as working together as a team to help run a successful company. We attend various invitation only networking events. Managing, supervising, major office skills, excellent communication skills, sales expertise, marketing, public relations, problem solver, empathy, passion, wisdom, competitive, counseling skills, time management, multi-tasking, organization, confidence, boldness, ambition, motivation, hard-worker, go-getter, much patience, high level of tolerance, mental focus, high energy level, attentiveness, team player, professional attitude, firm and much more is needed to run a successful operation. I am so very grateful to God that I can get along with anyone and know how to help make working together with anyone go well. Oh we do bump heads and can get on each others nerves some times, but our focus stays on what needs to be done on a daily basis. This job and the work load can create a stressful and uptight environment if you do not know how to deal correctly. I try to set the tone whenever I am there inside the Office, helping to create and maintain an easy going peaceful, harmonious and at times humorous atmosphere.

    Each individual staff in our Phoenix Office has their own unique personalities and expertise which brings what is needed to the company. During one of our quartely lunch meetings with the owner of the company, she was discussing the near future goals for the company for the next 10 years and she mentioned that on next year in 2017 she wants to start a company in Florida. She asked me if I wanted to move to Florida to help run the company. She caught me off guard, I was not expecting her to ask that. While in a little shock my reply to her was that I have a daughter who has 2 more years in high school here in AZ and after she graduates from H.S. and goes to college I would be ready and more prepared to move anywhere in this world. My daughter is currently a Junior in high school, so I have until 2018. The owner probably thought that I would be excited and would say yes, but I couldn't. Again I thought about this later but still my kids come first. Every decision that is made for my life is based around my childrens lives. The job offer and move would include a relocation allowance, a pay raise and an increase in responsibility, in which I of course would have loved to have received, but currently this is not the right time. If this offer still stands in two more years, the answer could maybe end up being yes. At one time in my life I was very interested in moving to Florida. I have already informed my children that after Joy graduates from high school and goes to college that I was going to move to Hawaii. Whatever is meant to be, will be.

    I am so very glad to be me. I live only 5 minutes from the Office, I am able to leave and return to the office if my daughter calls and needs me, because her school is less than 10mins from the office and from where we live. So I do have a bit of freedom where I work, my daughter has a full schedule with everything she is involved in and she seems to think that I should be able to leave work at whatever time she needs me to in order to meet her demanding needs. I have to remind my daughter and my son that my work schedule is from 8am-5pm, but they seem to not care. I was offered a job in Mesa, AZ, but i had to turn it down because it is too far from my daughters school. I have to be able to quickly get to her whenever I need to. The job offer was an increase in pay working for a newer company in the same profession, I was offered this job twice. And again the owner of that company recently reached out to me for the third time, but everything is now placed on hold, until further notice. I have once more again considered, but the travel time is too far. I will wait to hear what she will offer when or if she is ready to move forward.

    My job challenges my greatest character traits, which I stand firm on continuing to allow myself to possess. The work assignments also helps improve my inborn talents and professional skills (which are valuable assets). The owners expectations are very high, which is excellent because if I didn't have a job that constantly challenges my abilities it wouldn't feel rewarding and for me it would be a boring profession. Although this job is very demanding, interferes in my personal life and makes me want to quit several times, I do love what I do when I do it, it is a very rewarding profession with a feeling of purpose. Providing help making an impact on the lives of others who truly need it. She has been generous enough to give us bonuses when we have reached our targeted office quota, also during our christmas party for our staff and employees, in which she also attends and also during the companys yearly aniversary celebration event which on this year in May, we celebrated the companys 10th year. We were also recently informed that we each will be getting our individual work production bonus. I am hoping that this will happen soon, because each care coordinator in each of the offices are the ones who are responsible for increasing the companys clientele (among doing a million other things), which helps grow this company. And we each are expected and required to increase the clientele on a weekly basis. Anyway, I invited my sister to the celebration event, we had a wonderful time, although my sister made me extremely late for the event, because I decided to car pool. I was so very embarassed walking in there as late as we did, good thing I still know how to make a grand entrance turning the focus in another direction. I was not expecting the bonus she gave each of us from our Phoenix office on that night. The bonuses are great whenever they are given, but I still want a monthly pay increase. It does make me feel grateful that my light is shinning bright and that I am being noticed for the skills I truly possess which is an asset to the success and growth process of her company. So very grateful.

    One of our common things is that we are all single women with children who are still in school. Two of us are currently separated from our spouses and are getting a divorce. Not something that I want to have in common with anyone, indeed an unfortunate situation, but I am long over feeling embarassed about getting a divorce. I am currently separated and getting a divorce. I have been separated from my husband for 2 years and 4 months now, he is taking his time with starting the divorce process. Since the day of the separation I have been at the point of no return, no looking nor going back. My children had to recover from the separation, they have no doubt come a long way and it was not very easy for them at the beginning. They both dealt with it very differently from the other. It broke my heart to watch them suffer to try to accept a decision that was not at all made by them. Life does go on but the direction in which our lives will go in was going to be determined by the quick decisions that finally had to be made by me their mom when it was time for both parents to go in their separate directions. The separation was not a decision that was made over night, it was for a long time coming. Both of my parents thought that I was going to move back to Chicago and so did my childrens dad. What reason would I need to move back to Chicago, I have established a life for my children here in AZ and i was determined along with having a little fear going to continue to our lives here. I am so very grateful that I had enough courage and faith to move forward in making the right decision to continue our lives here in Arizona, independently.

    I never believed in getting a divorce and couldn't understand why couples could not or would not do whatever it takes to make the marriage work. I discovered and realize for myself that love, relationships, responsibility and family may have had different meanings and not correctly understood by each individual involved. Different point of views or misunderstandings are not on one accord or in agreement. It takes two people to get married, but it can take only one of them to take the marriage to a place of no return. I take full responsibility for myself. Children should never have to suffer because of unresolved issues between the parents, but unfortunately it happens. Some sufferings are greater than others depending on the damage that is done. My son asked me this question a couple of months ago, when were getting ready to leave the bank and his car wouldn't start, "how can I be so calm". I am glad that he noticed that. I just calming told him to wait a little bit, then it will start and so it did. We weren't far from where I lived (although I was not going to walk home, it was very hot outside). I had him to drive me to the bank in his vehicle, instead of me driving mine. When mom stays calm and focused my children know that everything is and will be okay. Life experiences and dealing with others in various ways will teach you a lot, if you allow. I had to learn to better work on how I allowed myself to daily deal with things, because who wants turbulence. I want to continuously be in the midst of and surrounded by a peaceful calm prosperous love filled life, this I have the power to create and maintain. When our clients and employees seem chaotic I have to stay calm so that my calmness can relax them and put them at peace with ease. I can get uptight at times, but I always come in peace. Daily working on self improvement and self empowerment.

    I am open for love and marriage a second time around. My children of course do not want me to re-marry. To be frank, God knows I am human and I want lots of love and affection again, I will need to make up for lost times, it has been........NO, I have not decided to become a Nun. This is torture, am I being punished for something that I shouldn't be held responsible for? lol, or should I? I don't think so, come on now. I talk to God about everything. Will I ever get married again, I do not truly know. If this is my hearts desire, it will happen, right. Am I ready to do this all over again with someone else. OMG they would have to be a very special and unique person to win me over! GOD I hope this person has already been created, just for me and me for just them. My childrens dad stated that I am not easy to please, which is not at all true. I am not without blame, but my true intentions and actions are very good. We had 20 years of marriage together before the separation, plenty of time......... We talk about all kinds of things at work, I am usually the one who would bring up any kind of topic discussion. One of the ladys asked me do I believe in love at first sight. I stated not that I am aware of, but maybe love at 15th, 16th or 20th sight, which has been more realistic for me. I am so very grateful for the life lessons I have learned as well as looking forward to more life lessons that are still to come, which I am open to receive. Enjoy your lives together, create and cherish many special moments!

    I love and Adore my children so very much, but I never ever want to smother them or handicap and hinder them in life. I want them both to continuously grow into mature, successful, wise, loving, respectful, ambitious, determined, confident, responsible unique individuals. And Leaders or Masters in whatever they do, never ever giving up even while experiencing challenges or setbacks. My daughter Joy is an A student (she helps to tutor her fellow classmates in math and other subjects whenever they need her to, she makes herself available), she is involved in the marching band at her school playing the drums, being the only girl drummer. She attends band camp every summer. She is in the jazz band, playing the drums and base guitar. She participates in marching band and jazz band competitions. At home she has a drum set, acoustic guitar and trombone. She knows how to read music. She is on the girls basketball team at her school, being one of the starting players. She attends basketball camp every summer, while participating in tournaments all year round. Her teacher has her playing the drums for the orchestra when they perform. Her teacher has opened the door for her to audition for other music bands and events, including the Christmas production play which takes place every year at Phoenix First Church where they include real live animals in the play. This Christmas production play is very popular and well known In which thousands of people come out every year to watch. Joy looks forward to participating in this play, although it is around the same time as the school basketball season. Again just as last year, she will have me safely racing to her basketball game immediately after I get off work to pick her up and safely race her to the church so that she can make it on time to the scheduled play. When a basketball game is scheduled on the same date of the play, she is allowed to get to the play as soon as she can but before the play starts. Joy truly looks forward to participating in every event that she is involved in and she of course keeps me on track with event dates, pick up times, fees and everything else. I am wonder woman or super woman, whichever one I fit. This young lady is smart, intelligent, a leader, committed, determined, confident, a go-getter, helpful, dedicated, beautiful inside and out, responsible, picky, organized and she has so many other great qualities. Oh yes, Joy has tried to trick me, so no she is not without blame. I adore my baby girl so. I am so very grateful and blessed to have her as my baby girl. GOD HAS BLESSED ME WELL!!

    My son Jerry has moved out into his own apt. on last year before Thanksgiving into a gorgeous apt. by the Phoenix Airport. He has been the top sales person at the company in which he works. On a monthly basis he receives a huge commission pay along with his base pay. I do not mean to be a picky meddling, judgemental mom, but I do agreed with his friend, hanging out buddies nor girlfriend selection. I try to give him his space as long as needed without invading. We do bump heads, because he thinks I am being too picky, opinionated, unfair at times and over protective of him, I admit that I may be doing all 3 at times. I had to learn to back off especially when I recognized when I am being possessive or controling. I had to learn to trust him and his decisions a little better and believe that he was raised well enough to become a successful and a more responsible well behaved mature human being. I still wish that I could choose his friends and girlfriend, but I know I have to back off and learn to trust his choices a little more. This young man is smart, intelligent, ambitious, competitive, handsome, a go-getter and he has so many other great qualities. He also has very expensive taste and a very caring heart. This is my guy. I am working on establishing an even better relationship with both of my children. I do not want to be labeled as a stalker parent. Everyone needs there space and some alone time. I adore my son so. I am so very grateful and blessed to have him as my son. GOD HAS BLESSED ME WELL!!

    We are surrounded with stories of strife — the 99 percent, black lives matter, blue lives matter, all lives matter, those for gay marriage and those against. Those in favor of gun control and those who feel regulation interferes with their Second Amendment right to bear arms. People are so deep-rooted in what they believe, they are not open to listening to any other view. Individuals seem to only read and listen to news and current affairs from sources that support their already formed belief system. What happened to civility in the discussion? Why can’t people disagree without being so ugly?

    But sadly, it seems we’ve changed our stance from being inclusive. It appears we are living in a tumultuous time of fear and rage. Some people fear that the "lower classes" are trespassing on their territory (literally and figuratively), while the immigrant population is trying to earn, or defend, their “place at the table.” This is perhaps not unlike the political climate of the American Revolution.

    Hamilton was alone among the “founding fathers” in understanding that the world was witnessing two revolutions simultaneously. One was the political transformation; the other was the economic rise of modern capitalism, with its globalizing networks of production, trade and finance. We, too, are witnessing these same revolutions.

    So, what’s the answer? Well, like the story of Hamilton that will be dictated by history — how people will view the election of 2016 — who knows? One thing we can all agree on, is that it’s a pivotal moment in our history no matter the outcome.

    Rights

    As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence on July 4th, let’s take a moment to reflect on the freedoms that we enjoy here in America.

    Our founding fathers recognized in our nation’s Declaration of Independence, “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights….” This foundation is critical to our freedom because it recognizes and declares that our rights aren’t granted to us by government, but instead are granted to us by our Creator. Government can’t take away God-given rights.

    In our Bill of Rights, our founding fathers articulated the individual freedoms that our government can’t infringe upon. The First Amendment begins with my favorite and the one that I believe our founding fathers found most important, “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ….” In this day and age, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that our country was founded by pilgrims fleeing religious persecution because they chose to reject the religion required by their government and follow the dictates of their own conscience. The memory of government persecution for publicly worshiping God was enough for our founding fathers to say never again, and then create a country where that would be true.

    If we look around the world today, we can see the wisdom of our founding fathers. According to research verified by the International Institute of Religious Freedom, last year was the most violent for Christians in modern history with 7,100 Christians murdered in 2015 for “faith-related reasons.”

    Just last week in Russia, the Duma (Upper House) and Federation Council (Lower House) passed legislation that will prevent citizens from sharing their faith unless they have secured a permit from the government. Even if granted a permit, an individual will only be able to share their faith in their church. This means citizens won’t be able to discuss their faith in a public park, over coffee at Starbucks, online through social media or email, or even in the privacy of their own homes.

    Thank God our founding fathers established freedom of religion, and not the Russian version of freedom from religion.

    Next, when I consider the freedoms that distinguish America as the freest nation in the world, the freedom secured by our Second Amendment, “the right of people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” comes to mind.

    In declaring our inalienable rights to include life and liberty, our founding fathers understood that in order to provide what Hamilton termed, “the original right of self-defense” and to protect ourselves from tyranny from future governments, men had to be able to protect themselves.

    The importance of our freedom to bear arms can be seen when you consider that since 9/11, Radical Islam has continued to attack America in Fort Hood, Boston, San Bernardino and now Orlando. While Americans may be threatened from abroad, thanks to the 2nd Amendment, we will never be defenseless.

    Regarding government tyranny, just look at the historical record. In 1938, Germany issued “Regulations Against Jewish Possession of Weapons.” Then, from 1939–1945, the Nazi government executed over six million Jews. This is a pattern that has been repeated throughout history, by Stalin in the Soviet Union, Mao in China and Castro in Cuba. A disarmed citizenry is one that will be controlled by government, rather than one that will control its government.

    Fourth of July is filled with parades, cookouts, picnics and fireworks. However, let’s not forget to celebrate the importance of these freedoms.

    “Please just honor and remember the fallen who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”

    But there is noticeably less effort to preserve Independence Day’s distinct meaning. At many parades and gatherings, the Fourth of July looks like another all-purpose, vaguely military holiday, where—somewhere between food and fireworks—we sing “God Bless America” and take a moment to thank our veterans for keeping us free.

    Now, any day is a good day to thank a veteran for his or her service. Still, I think we’re missing something important about Independence Day—and about freedom itself.

    A Nation Is Born

    First, in the spirit of remembering what holidays are all about, let’s state the obvious. Our national holiday commemorates July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress—representing the citizens of 13 colonies—adopted a document declaring that all men are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” and that “to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” After establishing at length that the king had been destroying these rights, the document concluded that “these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown.”

    This declaration was monumental. It meant the war that had already been raging for more than a year was more than a mere protest by the king’s subjects; it was a full-out rebellion, and its goal was independence. The American people would hereafter not just be fighting against certain policies of the king, they would be fighting for something: liberty, and a nation of their own.

    To gain that liberty, the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence—and all the people they represented—would have to assume a tremendous risk. They knew the conflict would now be in even deadlier earnest, and that war would be waged right in their midst, among their homes, villages, and farms. They knew their very lives and the lives of their families would be in danger. Yet they decided, as Patrick Henry had famously a year earlier, that death itself was better than life without liberty.

    We should note that this decision was primarily made by civilians. Most of the signers of the Declaration were not soldiers, nor were most of the people they represented. Some would go on to join the rag-tag Continental Army, while others simply bore the deprivations and horrors of a landscape torn by war. In many cases, their lives and fortunes took a sharp turn for the worse. In his book “1776,” historian David McCullough recounts how British and German soldiers invading and ransacking Long Island, New York, marveled at the prosperity they saw among the colonists there. They were shocked that such well-fed people would choose to rebel against their government. Clearly, these Americans placed a high value on freedom, and they were willing to pay dearly for it.

    Of course, those who paid the highest price were the men who took up arms and became soldiers. Without George Washington and his army, Thomas Jefferson’s magnum opus would have amounted to nothing more than words on paper. But without the ideals expressed in the Declaration—and a people willing to sacrifice for those ideals—there would have been no cause for which to fight. Thus we remember the adoption of a document, not a military victory, as the moment our nation was born.

    Give Me Liberty or Give Me . . . Never Mind

    Today, 240 years after that fateful, sweltering day in Philadelphia, it’s hard to imagine modern Americans making a similar decision to risk everything for the sake of liberty. These days safety is our god, and we’ll gladly sacrifice freedom on its altar.

    Take the recent debate over gun control, for example. Despite the fact that America’s gun homicide rate has dropped by nearly 50 percent over the past decade, many are so shaken by incidents like the Orlando terrorist attack that they’re clamoring to toss the Second, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments on the scrap heap of history. Of course, the prospect of a mass shooting is frightening for anyone to contemplate. But it’s a statistically remote danger compared to the all-encompassing threat of a government empowered to strip its citizens of rights without due process of law. The armed commoners standing on Lexington Green in 1775, defying a military superpower to come confiscate their weapons, understood this.

    Our modern “safety first” mentality extends to fiscal matters, too. We say we want economic freedom, but we don’t want the inherent risk that such freedom entails. Instead, we’d rather have government bailing out our failing industries. We want the central bank tightly controlling interest rates. We want the state to care for us in our old age, give us health care and make other people pay for it, make sure we have a “living wage,” pay for our kids’ college, and take care of the poor so we don’t have to. We’re scared to do without all these government programs we’ve come to expect, even if it means our freedoms are eroded and we’re sold into indentured servitude in the form of crippling debt. Safety first!

    Frankly, far too many of us think nothing of sending someone else’s son, husband, sister, or mother to “defend freedom overseas” while remaining unwilling to take a single risk ourselves, no matter how small, in order to defend freedom here at home. Saying “thank you” to our military on holidays rings a bit hollow when we treat the liberty for which they fight with contempt in our daily lives.

    Freedom Requires Bravery from Us All

    That brings us back to what we’re missing about Independence Day. July 4 should be a celebration of the ideals that formed this nation, and a reminder that all Americans—not just the military—have a role to play in defending them. When we downplay the role of ordinary civilians in safeguarding freedom, we also downplay their responsibility.

    Our fighting men and women take an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” But it isn’t only up to them. It can’t be. Today, the direst threats to the Constitution of the United States don’t come violently from outside our borders, but peaceably from within. In a representative government, we the people are chiefly responsible to support and defend the Constitution—in the way we vote, the policies for which we advocate, and the way we live in our communities.

    Benjamin Franklin once famously said that the Constitutional Convention had created “a republic, if you can keep it.” At the time, he was speaking not to a professional soldier, but to an ordinary American woman. The charge to “keep” the republic belongs to us all. It will require bravery not just from the small segment who are in the armed forces, but from every single one of us.

    Make no mistake: freedom is risky. Freedom can be messy. But it is always, always the best way to live. As Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1791, “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.” We fool ourselves if we believe that trading away our liberty—won for us at such a high cost—will bring the safety and prosperity we seek.

    So this Fourth of July, by all means, thank a veteran or active-duty service member. But also take some time to read the Declaration of Independence and ponder the national spirit embodied by those words. There’s a reason Francis Scott Key, writing the poem which later became our national anthem, called America “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” These two traits—freedom and bravery—once defined us as a people. The former is impossible to maintain without the latter. I pray that somewhere deep in our national DNA, we still have the capacity for both.

    The Statue of Liberty

    The Statue of Liberty symbolizes America’s independence and the freedom the country offers to all that enter. It was given to the United States in 1886 by France (shipped in 214 crates and assembled on what is now know as Liberty Island in the New York Harbor.)

    National Importance

    The United States is a fairly young country, and the original birthday of the US was actually not that long ago. In 1776, the original thirteen states came together and separated from England with the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. During this time, the brave Founding Fathers knew that the future ahead would be full of danger and risk to themselves and their families, but the importance of the country was greater than any one person.

    Thus, in 1776, the United States of America was born. After years of extremely difficult fighting and war, the country came out on top and began its existence as a peaceful country. This was the defining moment for the country, and that is why Independence Day is of such great importance for American people even today. Without July 4th, there would be no America.

    Independence Day – Placement on the Calendar

    Due to the fact that the holiday is in the middle of summer time, there are countless festivals and parties all dedicated to celebrating this important day in the history and modern day USA. Also, because of its placement in the middle of summer, most traditional American summer time activities are in full swing by this time. These include water activities, beach trips, and cookouts and barbecues.

    Activities for Independence Day

    There are numerous activities that have been associated with the Fourth of July, with most of them being of a celebratory fashion. Some of the most traditional aspects of the Fourth of July are as follows:

    Fireworks. If you look at any piece of promotional literature for a July 4th party, you will definitely see photos of fireworks exploding in a brilliant fashion. Fireworks, while not originally American, have become the primary symbol of the holiday. Besides the Red, White, and Blue, fireworks are an exact symbol of the USA and Independence Day.

    Barbecues and Cook-outs. One of the most traditional ways for Americans to celebrate all summer holidays including Independence Day is to host or attend a cookout or barbecue. Most churches will have one of these events for its congregation on the 4th of July, and many will use it as an outreach for the community surrounding the church. Typically foods at these events include hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, kebabs, steaks, and vegetables. This is a good way for friends and family to get together during the holidays off from work.

    Concerts. There are always a number of concerts which take place around the country on Independence Day. Some of the songs which will be played include “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and “America, the Beautiful.”

    Travel. For those Americans who love to travel, the Independence Day weekend is a perfect time to do it. With having a long weekend, more time can be enjoyed at the destination than on the road. Typically, some of the most popular destinations include water parks, state and national parks, beaches, and the mountains. City locations are usually not as popular during the Fourth of July weekend. The United States is a naturally diverse country, with impressive landscapes in almost every state. The national park system is one of the great contributions that the US gave to the rest of the world, and these original national parks can be visited during the Fourth of July weekend.

    Take the Day Off

    Since 1938, the Fourth of July has been an official paid holiday for government officials. This gives Independence Day a special place on the calendar of the United States, as there are only a limited number of paid holidays on the calendar. It is likely that this day will never disappear from the American calendar.

    While those who enjoy this day may not fully realize this, there is a long history of celebrations for Independence Day. Starting even during the Revolutionary War with England, Americans were setting up unique celebrations for this day. After the war, this day became a very special day used to unite the country in the midst of its quest to grow and prosper.

    Unique Celebrations in the United States

    There are a number of special events which are unique to specific places in the USA. The longest running Fourth of July event started in 1785 and continues to this day in Bristol, Rhode Island. This New England state holds a very notable parade. On Coney Island, New York, there is an annual hot dog eating contest sponsored by Nathan’s hot dogs. Started over sixty years ago, there is a joint celebration between Canada and the United States which climaxes with a large fireworks display over the Detroit River.

    One of the longest running televised concerts is the performance by the Boston Pops Orchestra during a fireworks show in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to this, the annual event on the front lawn of the Capitol building is also a long running favorite among urban Americans.

    Independence Day, the Biggest Birthday Party in the World

    As a celebration of the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence in 1776, Independence Day is recognized as a large birthday celebration for one of the world’s most influential countries.

    Overall, this is a day of patriotism and pride for the United States. It is a large birthday celebration which all Americans can enjoy. Positioned conveniently in the middle of summer vacation, the Fourth of July is very fun because of the fact that almost everyone has time to take off from work and reflect on the United States and its history. While much of the original events of the first July 4th have been lost over the years, the overreaching concept is still intact.

    For Americans, this vitally important day is truly a day of celebration.

    Housing of Soldiers

    No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

    AMENDMENT IV

    Search and Seizure

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    AMENDMENT V

    Rights in Criminal Cases

    No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

    AMENDMENT VI

    Rights to a Fair Trial

    In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

    AMENDMENT VII

    Rights in Civil Cases

    In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

    AMENDMENT VIII

    Bails, Fines and Punishments

    Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

    AMENDMENT IX

    Rights Retained by the People

    The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

    AMENDMENT X

    Powers Retained by the States and the People

    The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. (ie: marriage)

    AMENDMENT XI - Passed by Congress March 4, 1794. Ratified February 7, 1795.

    Lawsuits Against States

    Note: Article III, section 2, of the Constitution was modified by amendment 11.

    The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State.

    AMENDMENT XII - Passed by Congress December 9, 1803. Ratified June 15, 1804.

    Election of President and Vice President

    Note: A portion of Article II, section 1 of the Constitution was superseded by the 12th amendment.

    The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate; -- the President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted; -- The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. [And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President. --]* The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

    *Superseded by section 3 of the 20th amendment.

    AMENDMENT XIII - Passed by Congress January 31, 1865. Ratified December 6, 1865.

    Abolition of Slavery

    Note: A portion of Article IV, section 2, of the Constitution was superseded by the 13th amendment.

    Section 1.

    Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

    Section 2.

    Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    AMENDMENT XIV - Passed by Congress June 13, 1866. Ratified July 9, 1868.

    Civil Rights

    Note: Article I, section 2, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of the 14th amendment.

    Section 1.

    All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

    Section 2.

    Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice-President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age,* and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.

    Section 3.

    No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

    Section 4.

    The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

    Section 5.

    The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

    *Changed by section 1 of the 26th amendment.

    AMENDMENT XV - Passed by Congress February 26, 1869. Ratified February 3, 1870.

    African American Suffrage

    Section 1.

    The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude--

    Section 2.

    The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    AMENDMENT XVI - Passed by Congress July 2, 1909. Ratified February 3, 1913.

    Income Taxes

    Note: Article I, section 9, of the Constitution was modified by amendment 16.

    The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

    AMENDMENT XVII - Passed by Congress May 13, 1912. Ratified April 8, 1913.

    Direct Election of Senators

    Note: Article I, section 3, of the Constitution was modified by the 17th amendment.

    The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

    When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.

    This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution. (before this, the state legislature decided who

    the senators were)

    AMENDMENT XVIII - Passed by Congress December 18, 1917. Ratified January 16, 1919. Repealed (taken back) by amendment 21.

    Prohibition of Liquor

    Section 1.

    After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

    Section 2.

    The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    Section 3.

    This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.

    AMENDMENT XIX - Passed by Congress June 4, 1919. Ratified August 18, 1920.

    Women’s Suffrage

    The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. (Amendments giving women the right to vote were introduced in Congress for more than 40 years before this one was passed!!!!!!!)

    Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    AMENDMENT XX - Passed by Congress March 2, 1932. Ratified January 23, 1933.

    Terms of President and Congress

    Note: Article I, section 4, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of this amendment. In addition, a portion of the 12th amendment was superseded by section 3.

    Section 1.

    The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

    Section 2.

    The Congress shall assemble at least once in every year, and such meeting shall begin at noon on the 3d day of January, unless they shall by law appoint a different day.

    Section 3.

    If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.

    Section 4.

    The Congress may by law provide for the case of the death of any of the persons from whom the House of Representatives may choose a President whenever the right of choice shall have devolved upon them, and for the case of the death of any of the persons from whom the Senate may choose a Vice President whenever the right of choice shall have devolved upon them.

    Section 5.

    Sections 1 and 2 shall take effect on the 15th day of October following the ratification of this article.

    Section 6.

    This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission.

    AMENDMENT XXI - Passed by Congress February 20, 1933. Ratified December 5, 1933.

    Repeal of Prohibition

    Section 1.

    The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.

    Section 2.

    The transportation or importation into any State, Territory, or Possession of the United States for delivery or use therein of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited.

    Section 3.

    This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by conventions in the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.

    AMENDMENT XXII - Passed by Congress March 21, 1947. Ratified February 27, 1951.

    Limitation of Presidents to Two Terms

    Section 1.

    No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

    Section 2.

    This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.

    AMENDMENT XXIII - Passed by Congress June 16, 1960. Ratified March 29, 1961.

    Suffrage in the District of Columbia

    Section 1.

    The District constituting the seat of Government of the United States shall appoint in such manner as Congress may direct:

    A number of electors of President and Vice President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress to which the District would be entitled if it were a State, but in no event more than the least populous State; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the States, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of President and Vice President, to be electors appointed by a State; and they shall meet in the District and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment.

    Section 2.

    The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    AMENDMENT XXIV - Passed by Congress August 27, 1962. Ratified January 23, 1964.

    Poll Taxes

    Section 1.

    The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax.

    Some states once used these to keep poor people and African Americans from voting.

    Section 2.

    The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    AMENDMENT XXV - Passed by Congress July 6, 1965. Ratified February 10, 1967.

    Presidential Disability and Succession

    Note: Article II, section 1, of the Constitution was affected by the 25th amendment.

    Section 1.

    In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

    Section 2.

    Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

    Section 3.

    Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

    Section 4.

    Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

    Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

    AMENDMENT XXVI - Passed by Congress March 23, 1971. Ratified July 1, 1971.

    Suffrage for 18-Year-Olds!!!!

    Note: Amendment 14, section 2, of the Constitution was modified by section 1 of the 26th amendment.

    Section 1.

    The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

    Section 2.

    The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

    AMENDMENT XXVII - Originally proposed Sept. 25, 1789. Ratified May 7, 1992.

    Congressional Pay Raises

    No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of representatives shall have intervened.

    Hello everyone, I hope that you had a Very Merry Christmas filled with lots of genuine cherishaable Love and memorable Loving, filled with the greatest measures of a contagious kind of Peace and then overflowing with an abundance of Laughter, Happiness and Joy all while staying connected to the Joys of Giving, Sharing and Caring.

    I so loooove the Christmas Holidays. I Greatly Enjoyed my 4 day Holiday Weekend with my beautiful blessed family. So very amazed at how this year 2015 has quickly come and is now very close to going into the new year 2016 as memories of the past some big or small, some happy or sad and some cherishable or forgetable. I am looking forward in 2016 to experiencing another Beautifully Blessed beyond measures kind of year. Blessed with an abundance of good health, increased finances as well as daily increasing in Gods wisdom and knowledge with excellent understanding, overflowing in Love, exuberant Joy and living in and with a contagious kind of Peace.
